Nora Bordach's finished quilt top from our ModTrad improv workshop in October. She says this is her first improv quilt and now she thinks she was "born for it!". We love to hear stories like that.
We had a packed house at our November meeting! It's wonderful to see so many members and guests joining us each month. Thank you to all who attended our last meeting! Be sure to check out the full gallery of 52 photos (excerpt above) from our meeting in the photo gallery.
QuiltCon Charity Challenge Blocks: to kick off our meeting, Allison talked about the progress of our QuiltCon Charity Challenge blocks. Members brought in the blocks they’d made over the last couple of weeks using our “improv with intent” instructions, our South Florida sunrise inspiration, and the fabric palette chosen by the Modern Quilt Guild. So far, these blocks look fantastic! If you have fabric, but still haven’t completed your blocks, please complete them for the December Meeting (December 19th). We’ll have a sew-in after the meeting to assemble the blocks and complete our quilt top and back.

Shelly led the conversation about our Block of the Month. The BOM for November was the Checker Block, Marianna Steele won the lottery. Congratulations Marianna!
Quilt Along: Patti talked about month six of the QAL, which was our final month. Shelly, Swig and Patti showed progress on their QAL quilts. We also talked about strategies for assembling our improv blocks into a quilt. It has been so much fun seeing these quilts come together, and we cannot wait to see more completed QAL quilts at the upcoming meetings! Members who completed five blocks or more in the QAL were awarded with a fat quarter of their choice!
Charlotte gave an update on upcoming exhibits and shows, including the World Quilt show in Orlando in January, where we will have a special exhibit!
Topic of the Month: Our monthly topic was on selecting and using Modern Fabric for modern quilt projects, which was led by Allison. We talked about what was popular, and ways to pick the right fabrics for modern quilts. We also saw a lot of inspiring photos of quilts made using modern fabric.
